Rainbird escapes justice again: November 16 2007

76 year old New Norfolk farmer Richard Rainbird escaped justice once again in the Hobart Magistrates Court today, when no meaningful penalty was handed down on his second round of cruelty charges.

Magistrate Michael Hill, following the pattern of Tasmanian magistrates generally, saw nothing especially serious in the behaviour or serial animal abuser Rainbird, and "re-sentenced" his original 28 days SUSPENDED sentence, adding another 30 days SUSPENDED. No fine was imposed despite Rainbird's substantial property holdings and expensive "mouthpiece" Faulds. So Rainbird can go and do it all again.
